Why do you blog?
Posted on Nov 5, 2007 in Knowledge, SEO, Social Networking
With so many blogs out there, I wonder dear blogger, why do you blog?
Do you blog for enjoyment? Do you blog in hopes of making money online with your blog? How about helping others with your experience and knowledge about something you are passionate about?
You could type in a word that you are searching for in any search engine, and chances are that at least half of the results on the first page are blogs. There is a wealth of information out there on the internet and blogs are a key aspect of this information.
Not all of the blogs out there provide good information, but the majority do. But that is part of the world we live in. Finding and taking that information is key to your knowledge, and what you do with the information that you have found from blogs is up to you.
So, here is my “why”.
I enjoy writing about things that interest me. I hope to be able to translate the things that I learn into information that someone else can find interesting. I hope that someone can use that information to benefit themselves or their own blog or site. I would love to be able to make a living blogging, but that isn’t meant to be for now, and that’s fine. Heck, I’m still fairly new to this blogging game!
I blog for the social aspect of meeting new people and finding new sites that share the same interest as I do. Blogs about search engine optimization, how to make money online, accessible and usable web design are but just a few of the things that I find interesting.
So, why do you blog? I challenge you, fellow bloggers, to write your “why” on your blog and link back to me here. I will compile your “why” into a list and publish it in an upcoming article, with a summary of your “why”.
And for my readers that don’t have a blog of your own, leave me a comment and let me know why you like reading this blog, or one of your favorite blogs out there.
I will compile this list early next week, so start writing your reasons for blogging now. I can’t wait to see your “why”!

I blog because I enjoy writing but I don’t enjoy writing books (I’ve tried). If I can help other people while I’m doing it, it makes me even happier.
@ Frank, great point! Writing can really help yourself develop and improve your skills, plus if it helps someone else, that’s a huge bonus! I find that I am improving in my skills, catching things that I would have missed a few months ago.
Thanks for the input and feedback!
Gasp! What a coincidence as I wrote more or less and exact post as yours (with the same title) and got it posted yesterday! This is freaky!
pablo,
I guess great minds think alike! I can’t wait to see your list too!
[...] form yesterday and thus, could only post it yesterday. I won’t doubt for a second that Elliott’s posting on “Why Do You Blog?” is genuine as it was posted on 5th November [...]
LOL! I can’t wait to see yours too!
I started blogging out of curiosity for this new media.
Now that the novelty factor is no more, I blog for the love of writing and wanting to make a difference in people’s lives with my writings.
[...] an earlier article I wrote about Why I blog and asked for your input into why you blog. I promised to compile the responses into a new article [...]
